Natural gas is one of the world’s most important sources of energy. Today approximately 30% of the world's energy demand is derived from natural gas. The majority of natural gas is delivered by pipeline in gaseous form. However, in the past two decades Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) have become much more important in the world's energy market. Natural gas and LNG in particular is expected to play an essential role in the world’s transition to cleaner sources of energy.
Petrochemical plants convert natural resources such as crude oil, natural gas, ores and minerals into products for a wide range of applications. They produce many important building blocks for industry processes, including ethylene, propylene, butadiene, and aromatics. We are a world-leading provider of the technology required to steam crack gaseous and liquid hydrocarbons and separate cracking products into important raw materials for downstream petrochemical processes.
Linde is the only company, world-wide, that designs, owns and operates hydrogen and synthesis gas plants using its own technology. Experience from its own plant operations flows into plant construction. To cater the demand of small consumers ( 150 - 900 Nm³/hr hydrogen), Linde Engineering had developed innovative hydrogen generators called “Hydroprime”, based on the proven Steam Methane Reformer Technology using Natural gas as feed with a hydrogen product purity of 99.999%.
We have designed and delivered over 500 pressure swing adsorption (PSA) plants to date, including some of the world’s largest units. Our proven high-performance PSA systems provide reliable and cost-effective separation and purification technology for a wide range of process gases.
Cryogenic equipment (for very low temperatures and liquefaction of helium and hydrogen) is based to a high extent on our own process and manufacturing know-how. Key components such as expansion turbines with dynamic gas bearings or cold compressors, developed in-house by Linde Kryotechnik, are characterized by high operational reliability and availability. The equipment is tailored to the individual requirements and specifications of our customers.
Linde has solutions for CO₂-related applications. These cover carbon dioxide removal from industrial processes (e.g. CO₂-removal from reduction gas) and from flue gases of power plants - to provide solutions for the problem of climate change. We are the competent supplier, and a prospective partner for the delivery of plants for the capture and removal of CO₂ for the energy sector as well as for the chemical and metallurgical industry.
We design and supply furnaces, fired heaters and incinerators as custom-built, turnkey plants or as plant components. These products are mainly used in the petrochemical, refining, gas processing, steel, and environmental engineering industries. The principle design of furnaces and fired heaters consists of a fire box with radiant coils, a convection zone for flue gas heat recovery, a stack, fan(s) and auxiliary components. The recovered flue gas heat is used for feed preheating or steam production.
Our aluminium plate-fin heat exchangers (PFHEs) are key components in many process plants. Their compact footprint helps save space and costs in a wide range of facilities, including air separation plants, petrochemical and gas treatment plants as well as natural gas and helium liquefaction plants.
Cryogenic columns are pressure vessels made of aluminium alloy. They are used as rectifiers, purifiers and stabilisers at low temperatures of between -269°C and +65°C (4°K to 338°K). The columns are key components in the treatment of cryogenic fluids and gases and are typically used in air separation plants, gas separation and liquefaction plants as well as in chemical and petrochemical plants.
Coil-wound heat exchangers (CWHEs) are required for a wide range of applications involving fluid treatment. They must support broad temperature and pressure ranges as well as single- and two-phase streams. We custom-design and build CWHEs for the widest application spectrum, always meeting individual thermal and hydraulic performance needs.
Linde Engineering has supplied more than 20,000 cryogenic tanks for liquefied gases since 1960, delivering highest quality standard designs as well as individual solutions tailored to the most demanding customer requirements. Liquefied gases are used in a wide range of applications, including metal processing, medical technology, electronics, water treatment, energy generation and the food industry.
Linde Engineering is a leading provider of air-heated vaporisers, looking back on nearly half a century of experience in the design and manufacturing of these components. Air-heated vaporisers use ambient heat to evaporate and superheat cryogenic fluids such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Water bath vaporisers are a special type of coil-wound heat exchanger. They are used in petrochemical and cryogenic plants to vaporise liquefied gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon, ethylene, propylene, and natural gas. They operate in a load range from around 500 Nm³/h to 195,000 Nm³/h. Up to three steams of different liquefied gases can be treated in one unit.
Linde Engineering has been manufacturing spiral-welded aluminium pipes at its Schalchen plant since 1976. The Group has produced over 1000 km of spiral welded pipes over the decades, delivering outstanding results for customers such as Siemens, ABB and CGIT.
Helium storage tanks have to be designed to strict specifications and built to very high quality standards due to the physical characteristics of helium. Building on the vast experience and expertise of our Cryo AB subsidiary, we design dedicated helium storage tanks that meet the strictest requirements.
Designing UN portable tanks for helium to the highest safety and efficiency standards for trouble-free, cost-effective delivery worldwide. For more than 12 years, we have been specialising in UN portable tanks for helium (known as Helicons). Building on our long-standing expertise in cryogenic technologies, these portable tanks are specifically designed to the highest safety and efficiency standards.
