GSPC is one of the leading oil and gas exploration, development and production companies in India. We are also one of the largest gas trading companies in India. In addition, we have a significant presence in the gas transmission and gas distribution businesses. Our exploration, development and production activities are conducted both onshore and offshore in India and overseas. Government of Gujarat along with its public sector undertakings are holding more than 86.89% of equity of the company as on 31-Mar-17.
As of now we hold PI in 22 onshore and offshore exploration and production blocks/fields. Out of which, we hold PI in 17 producing fields in the Cambay Basin and 01 producing field in Krishna Godavari Basin. We hold PI in 02 exploration blocks in Cambay Basin and 01 each in Mumbai Offshore and Kutch Offshore. We conduct all our exploration, development and production activities through unincorporated joint ventures with other domestic oil and gas companies and foreign partners and pursuant to PSCs.
We, through our Subsidiaries and Associates, operate the largest gas transmission and distribution network in the State of Gujarat. Our subsidiary, Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL), is a gas transmission company on common carrier basis. Gujarat Gas Ltd. and Sabarmati Gas, are engaged in the business of City Gas Distribution and related pipeline infrastructure in Gujarat. Between them, these companies have developed pipeline infrastructure and supply piped gas to domestic customers, industrial customers, commercial customers and Compressed Natural Gas ("CNG") stations in Gujarat. We trade in Liquefied Natural Gas ("LNG"), catering to industries, engaged in power generation, steel and city gas distribution, among others.
We engage in other activities in the energy sector as well. Associate, GSPC LNG Limited (GSPC LNG), is developing an LNG terminal at Mundra in Gujarat. Our associate company Gujarat State Energy Generation Limited (GSEG), owns and operates a gas based power plant at Hazira in Gujarat. Another wholly owned subsidiary, GSPC Pipavav Power Company Limited (GPPC), has set up a gas-fired combined cycle power plant at Pipavav in Gujarat. We have also set up a wind farm at Jakhau in Gujarat.
Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL) was set up to complement the efforts of GSPC. While GSPC harnesses and procures natural gas, GSPL is building the infrastructure that transmits the gas across the state of Gujarat and ultimately allows last-mile linkage to the end-user.
GSPL is laying a gas grid, to facilitate gas transmission from supply points to demand centres.
State-of-the-art network
The gas grid is equipped with the latest bi-directional gas transmission technology to enable two-way gas flow. This introduces a lot of flexibility into transmission by allowing gas to be sourced or uploaded at either end of the pipeline network. Besides, the network is continuously monitored using SCADA systems integrated with GIS technology.
Flexibility of transmission
Another innovation is in the open access or contract carrier principle of transmission. This allows any gas transmission company to approach GSPL for permission to use the network on payment of the required charges. Thus, private sector participation in gas transmission is encouraged, which makes more volumes available for consumers.
Pipeline Network
GSPL has already put in place a pipeline network of about 2600 km and further extension of pipeline network is going on. The company has signed gas transmission agreements with various industries for the transportation of natural gas from various supply sources in Gujarat.
Presently, the company transmits over 22 MMSCMD of natural gas.
