THE CHALLENGE
When your drill string is stuck downhole, you need a high-impact drilling jar to apply force to the stuck point in the drill string. This frees the drill string and allows you to continue drilling ahead or pull out of the hole.
Oilfield drilling jars create a delayed hammer-anvil effect, either hydraulically or mechanically.
With a hydraulic drilling jar, once the latch is released, the tool goes into metering mode. It compresses fluid until the release pressure is accomplished. At that point the fluid is released and the hammer impacts the anvil, applying a fixed force to the string.
With a mechanical drilling jar, the use of heavy drill collars or heavy weight drill pipe is key to creating a strong impact force. This is accomplished by overcoming a fixed latch setting and releasing the string weight (hammer) to the tool (anvil), applying a fixed force to the drill string.
Either type of jar can work in downward jarring operations. However, only hydraulic or hydra-mechanic drilling jars can fire upward.
THE SOLUTION
Our oilfield drilling jars are among the toughest and most durable in the industry. With reliable, state-of-the-art design, they’re ideal for directional, horizontal and deep hole applications, on and offshore.
As part of the Cougar Drilling Solutions’ fleet of downhole drilling tools, the DJ6 fires up hydraulically and down mechanically. It employs a proprietary internal latch to prevent accidental firing downhole. It’s available in 3.50” to 9.50” OD.
