Our customer made a 50% saving of its total shutdown campaign, as a result of using the Ampelmann A-type. The system was used daily for both day and night shift to transfer 120 people, which ensured the shutdown was delivered far within time and less than budgeted.

In a refurbishment program to upgrade lifeboats on offshore platforms, Ampelmann completed a second successful reinstallation using its full motion compensation technology. The eight-metric-ton lifeboat was kept completely stationary above the vessel deck, to allow lifting by the platform’s davit cranes. Traditionally, refurbished lifeboats are reinstalled on the offshore structure in the following manner: a platform supply vessel takes the lifeboat offshore, where it is lifted from the deck to the sea. Crew then enter the lifeboat, sail it under the offshore structure and attach the davit fall wires. The crew is removed from the lifeboat before lifting can commence. This operation is generally limited to calm weather and wave conditions, and requires challenging manhandling actions by the crew.

Ampelmann, a developer of motion compensated access solutions, has been awarded its first contract in Brazil. Under the contract, Ampelmann will provide its E-Type system to Boskalis in support of an extended FPSO maintenance campaign. The Ampelmann system enables fully motion compensated ship to ship personnel transfers. Ampelmann’s track record on FPSO walk to work campaigns includes recent projects delivered in the North-Sea, Australia, Gulf of Mexico and Africa. Several customers use Ampelmann’s walk to work solution for yearly FPSO maintenance campaigns. The Ampelmann E-type is capable of compensating sea states in excess of four meters significant wave height.

The Ampelmann system enables the safe and effective transfer of the workforce in one of the world’s most challenging offshore locations.To meet the demands of working offshore West of Shetland, the multipurpose service vessel the Siem Spearfish is being fitted with an Ampelmann E-type system. The E-type provides a stable transfer platform in conditions of up to 4.5 meters significant wave height thereby ensuring safe, efficient and reliable transfer of personnel.
